History of Boogie Woogie and Acrobatic Rock 'n' Roll
We danced yesterday, continue to dance today and will dance tomorrow...
Dance develops and changes. It is difficult to say with certainty when and how a particular dance style appeared and developed.
Dance, like any art form, is influenced and defined by its historical, social, and political environment. Popular music moved away from the big-band sound of swing toward rhythm and blues and then rock and roll. The Lindy Hop evolved into several different styles.
American servicemen introduced Jive styles of swing dance to Europe during the Second World War. They quickly took off and were adapted in different ways across different countries.
In mainland Europe, Boogie Woogie developed, while the airsteps from Lindy Hop were taken to their logical extreme in competitive Acrobatic Rock 'n' Roll.
The early 1970s brought a major renaissance of rock 'n' roll music. By the early 1980s, Rock 'n' Roll had developed into a highly artistic sport and Boogie Woogie was rediscovered.
Today, Boogie Woogie and Acrobatic Rock 'n' Roll are danced around the world. People from more than 30 countries attend competitions, clubs, and festivals.
